Service Above Self is the Rotary International Motto. Below are a few ways our members commit to this ideal:
Volunteerism
Members of the Hutchinson Rotary Club can be found on Boards of Directors and service committees all over town. Our members are committed to the Rotary motto of “service above self,” and they enjoy sharing their passions and talents to address a variety of needs in our community.
Meals on Wheels:
Our Rotary club delivers Meals on Wheels every Wednesday to homebound people in Hutchinson. Any member can sign up to be added to the list of drivers.
Annual Community Grants:
Grants are distributed yearly to nonprofit organizations in Hutchinson and Reno County. Funds are raised through contributions, special fund-raising efforts and Special Recognition at our regular meetings. Grants totaling $18,000 were distributed this year to 17 groups.
Boys and Girls Club:
Members of the Hutchinson Rotary Club partnered with the local Boys and Girls Club to build Hydroponic systems for their greenhouse. The project was funded by a grant from our District.
Honor Flights:
Working with Central Prairie Honor Flights, the Hutchinson Rotary Club raised enough money to send veterans on “Honor Flights” to see their war memorials in Washington DC.
Earthquake Relief:
The Hutchinson Rotary Club was the driving sponsor behind “Hutch for Haiti” – a community food packaging event with Numana. We raised more than $47,000 and packaged 50,000 meals for the starving people in Northern Haiti.
PolioPlus:
Funds raised by Special Recognition at club meetings and other contributions are given regularly to PolioPlus, Rotary International’s worldwide effort to eradicate polio.
Group Study Exchange:
Our club has been a big supporter of the Group Study Exchange Team program sponsored by our district. A team from our district travels to another country, and a team from that nation visits our district to enhance cultural understanding. Although this program has been discontinued at the national level, we are exploring ways to bring it back locally.
